Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes of dumper can I hire?
We list 3, 6 and 9 tonne site dumpers, including 6 and 9 tonne cabbed models and a 6 tonne dual-view machine, plus a 12 tonne Hydrema for high-volume work. The 3 tonne handles most groundworks and landscaping, while 6 tonne and above suit busy sites moving large volumes of spoil. Compact tracked barrows cover tight access, and we can typically source other sizes subject to availability. Tell us your payload and access and we’ll match the right machine.
What’s the difference between a swivel and a straight tip dumper?
Our listed site dumpers are forward (straight) tip, which is ideal for loading skips or tipping in a straight line. A swivel skip rotates the load up to around 90 degrees either side before tipping, so you can discharge alongside the machine, far easier for backfilling trenches or confined areas, and we can typically source one subject to availability. If you’re unsure which suits your job, our hire team will help you spec it.
What is a dual-view or high tip dumper used for?
Our 6 tonne dual-view dumper has a rotating seat and controls so you always face the direction of travel, which is safer on busy or congested sites. A high tip (hi-tip) dumper raises the skip before discharging, so it can tip up and over the side of a standard skip or into a stockpile a forward tip can’t reach; we can typically source one subject to availability. Let us know what you’re tipping into and we’ll confirm the right model.
Do you hire tracked dumpers for soft or restricted ground?
Yes. We list compact tracked barrows that spread their weight and grip far better than wheeled machines on mud, slopes and soft ground, and squeeze through gateways and narrow access around 700 to 800mm wide. They’re the go-to for landscaping, equestrian and poor-access sites, and we can typically source larger tracked dumpers subject to availability. Share your site conditions and we’ll recommend one.
Do I need a licence to hire a dumper?
You don’t need a driving licence to hire one, but anyone using a dumper for commercial work on site should hold a recognised qualification such as NPORS or CPCS forward tipping dumper, and a CSCS card is often required to be on site. For private land it isn’t a legal requirement. You’ll need to make sure whoever uses the dumper holds the right qualification.
How much can a site dumper carry?
Payload follows the tonnage rating. A 3 tonne dumper carries up to around 3,000kg, a 6 tonne up to roughly 6,000kg, and a 9 tonne up to about 9,000kg, with our 12 tonne Hydrema for the biggest loads. Heaped capacity depends on the material, as soil, hardcore and rubble all weigh differently. Tell us what you’re moving and we’ll make sure the machine is rated for it.
Can a dumper be towed or transported between sites?
The smaller wheeled and tracked dumpers are easily moved on a plant trailer, and we handle delivery and collection through our nationwide network so you don’t need to arrange transport yourself. For multi-site jobs we can shuttle the machine for you. Just give us the postcodes and dates.
How quickly can you deliver a dumper?
It depends on your location and current availability. We coordinate delivery and collection through our supplier network, and can often help with urgent or time-critical jobs, subject to availability. Send us your site postcode and we’ll confirm a realistic delivery time.
Which areas do you cover for dumper hire?
We provide dumper hire nationwide across the UK. Send us your site postcode when you enquire and we’ll confirm availability and delivery.
How do I get in touch?
The easiest way is through our contact page, where you can call or email us and the team will get straight back to you. We’re based in Croydon and arrange hire right across the UK, so wherever your site is, tell us what you need and we’ll sort the right kit and a price.
