Generators, Lighting & Power Distribution Hire

Generator hire from 777 Hire runs from 10kVA silenced sets for tools and a cabin up to 500kVA and larger machines for heavy plant. Most sets are silenced canopy units around 65 to 70 dBA at seven metres, available single or three phase, with hybrid battery sets that cut fuel by only firing the engine when demand climbs. Diesel, LED, solar and hybrid lighting towers sit alongside for site lighting. 777 Hire supplies these to businesses across the UK. Frequently Asked Questions

What size generator do I need?

Add up the loads running at the same time, allow for the surge when motors and pumps start, then leave around 20 to 25% spare so the set isn’t flat out. As a rough guide, 10 to 20kVA covers tools and a cabin, 30 to 100kVA suits a busy site with welfare and security, and 100kVA upward handles heavy plant and large events. Send us your kit list and we’ll size it for you.

How do you convert kVA to kW for a generator?

Generators are rated in kVA, but equipment is typically listed in kW. With a typical power factor of 0.8, a 100kVA generator gives roughly 80kW of usable output. If you only have kW figures, tell us and we’ll work back to the right kVA rating.

What’s the difference between prime and standby generators?

A prime set is built to run as your main supply for long, continuous periods, while a standby set is sized to step in only if the mains fails. The ratings differ, so it matters which you ask for. Tell us whether it’s your primary power or a backup and we’ll match the right machine.

Are your generators silenced?

Yes. Most of our sets are silenced (canopy) units with acoustic enclosures, typically down around 65 to 70 dBA at seven metres, which makes them suitable for residential streets, events and noise-sensitive sites. If noise is critical, let us know and we’ll spec a super-silent option.

Do you supply single phase or three phase generators?

Both. Single phase suits smaller loads like tools, lighting and cabins, while three phase is needed for heavier plant and large events, and many three phase sets can also give you single phase outlets. Tell us what you’re running and we’ll get the phasing right.

How much fuel does a generator use and how long will it run?

As a rough rule a diesel set burns around a quarter of a litre per kW each hour at typical load, so run time comes down to the load and the tank. Many sets carry long-run tanks for 24 hours or more, and we can arrange refuelling or a fuel bowser for longer jobs. Tell us your hours and we’ll work out the fuel side.

Can I hire a hybrid or battery generator?

Yes. A hybrid pairs a battery with the generator so it covers low loads silently and only starts the engine when demand climbs, cutting fuel, noise and emissions. They’re popular on events and welfare setups, so ask about a hybrid when you enquire.

Do you hire lighting towers as well?

Yes. Diesel, LED, solar and hybrid lighting towers sit alongside our generators for site security, night works and events. Tell us the area you need to light and we’ll recommend the number and type of towers.

How quickly can you deliver a generator?

It depends on your location and current availability. We coordinate delivery and collection through our supplier network, and can often help with urgent or time-critical jobs, subject to availability. Send us your site postcode and we’ll confirm a realistic delivery time.

Which areas do you cover for generator hire?

We provide generator hire nationwide across the UK. Send us your site postcode when you enquire and we’ll confirm availability and delivery.

How do I get in touch?

The easiest way is through our contact page, where you can call or email us and the team will get straight back to you. We’re based in Croydon and arrange hire right across the UK, so wherever your site is, tell us what you need and we’ll sort the right kit and a price.
